DESCRIPTION
This spectacular 34 Ford was painstakingly put together from an original steel car stored away for decades. Built to high style, built to perform, and built to last by a master aircraft mechanic, no detail in the construction of this classic American hotrod was overlooked.
The car is painted maroon against silvery gray. A Rootlieb hood graces the front end, with a couple hundred beveled louvers punched out in precise rows. Schroeder Speed and Custom performed bodywork and replicated the powdercoated frame to match factory, beefed up and boxed, with drop-out members for engine and trans. This car has all the Heidts best front and rear independent chrome and stainless suspension.
The interior is a subtle work of art, with wool carpeting and two tone maroon and gray door panels and seating (matching the exterior color scheme) done by Dave''s Upholstery -- premier interior shop for Northwest show cars. The dash is glossy South American bloodwood with a machine turned steel surround and a matching steering wheel.
The vintage white-faced gauges are supplied by Stewart Warner. There is full instrumentation, and ultra secure aircraft grade wiring and switching throughout. An arrangement of toggle switches overhead distributes power to a master cut-off, fuel, alternator, fan, wipers, and electric trunk lift. No key start, the ignition is triggered by a hidden button under the dash. Also switched from under dash, the air horn and lights.
Amenities include tilt out windshield, LED tail lights, heater, defroster, air conditioning, power windows, and power trunk lid. The rumble seat has been exchanged for a serviceable and fully upholstered trunk area that encloses a foam filled fuel cell, battery box, and various ingenious storage slots. Powered by a polished tuned port injected GM 350, and a 350 trans, its deep rumble exiting from the twin slash-cut pipes coupled to a full stainless steel Flowmaster series 40 exhaust system. Removing the side hood panel is done by quarter turn DZUS fasteners, the same as used on aircraft skin panels. Once exposed, the engine, like so many other components of this car, is another work of art. 9.5 compression, roller rockers, braided lines. Horsepower and torque both estimated in the 300-350 range. Polished intake runners on top, huge polished aluminum valve covers, custom stainless steel headers that have taken on a beautiful anodized tone from the heat. Everywhere in the engine bay are one-off parts and pieces engineered to exact tolerances.
Cooling is provided by a copper and brass four core radiator with a custom made aluminum shroud that they said couldn''t be made to fit, but was, and to a very high standard. Power disc brakes at each corner. Heidts bolt-in independent rear suspension with inboard GM calipers and a 9 inch 3.52 Ford differential. Cobra wheels with knock-offs, staggered tires -- 245-65-17 rears, 215-60-17 in the front.
