 Vehicle Description
Cord Was Noted For Innovative Designs Incorporating The Newest Ideas And Technologies. Their Automobiles Were More Like Concept Cars Than What Would Be Considered Regular Production Cars.

The Cord 812 Was An Over The Top Work Of Art.

The Large Voluptuous Front Wheel Pontoon Fenders Were A Definite Style Characteristic. The Coffin Nose Was One Heavily Rounded Rectangular Based Shape, The Nose/Engine Bay Sports A Wrap Around Grille And Highly Polished Exhausts Pouring Out Of The Side Of The Engine Cowling. They Were Actual Functioning Exhaust Pipes Which Were Supposed To Be Lowering Of Underhood Temperatures By Getting The Hot Pipes Outside. Their Real Purpose Was To Serve As An Identifying Mark For The Supercharged Cars.

The 812 Offered An Optional Supercharger. Central To The Supercharged Cord Was A Schwitzer-Cummins Centrifugal Supercharger That Was Attached To The L-Head Lycoming V8 Engine. With 6 psi Boost, It Produced Roughly 185 to 195 bhp.

A Bit Of Nostalgia: In September 1937 At The Bonneville Salt Flats, A Supercharged Beverly Sedan Did The Flying Mile At 107.66 mph And 24 Hours At An Average Of 101.22 mph.

The Cords Instrument Panel Was A Beautiful Combination Of Chrome Gauge Bezels And Aircraft Type Switches. It Is Often Described As The Most Beautiful Ever Installed On An American Car. The Four Large Round Dials Are, From Left To Right Speedometer, Tachometer, Oil Pressure And Clock. At The Left End Of The Panel Is The Round Water Temperature Gauge, While The Right End Holds The Round Radio Dial And The Radio Controls. The Fan Shaped Gauge On The Left Reports On Oil And Fuel Levels. It Is Balanced On The Right By A Fan Shaped Ammeter. At The Center Bottom Of The Panel Are Four Levers (l. to r.) : Headlights, Throttle, Choke And Dash Lights. A Little Crank On Each Side Of The Dash Opens And Closes Each Headlight Individually. A Flexible Cable Transmits The Drive To A Worm And Sector Gear In The Headlamp Housing. The Sharply-Angled Split-Pane Windshield Opens With The Knob Being Above Radio Controls. Beautiful Interior Includes Seats, Door Panel And Headliner In Burgundy With White Piping.

Stunning Paint In Palm Beach Tan, Gorgeous Chrome All Rolling On Wide White Wall Tires.
