Stk. 1865 1962 Chevrolet Impala SS
Originally introduced in 1958, the Impala was restyled on the GM B platform for the first time in 1961. The new body styling was more trim and boxy than the previous 1958-1960 models. The rare Super Sport (SS) option debuted for 1961. The 1962 model featured new "C" pillar styling for all models except the 4-door hardtop. The Sport Coupe model like ours you see here features the "convertible roof" styling shared with other GM "B" full-size hardtop coupes. This style is still extremely popular, and has contributed to the desirability of the 1962-1964 Impalas as collectibles. Our Impala, registering just 75,357 original miles, was the recipient of a refinish eight years ago in its original 925 Carona Cream lacquer. Its 891 cloth and vinyl interior is all original and very unique in that it is the same Anniversary interior used in the production of the rare Gold 50th Anniversary model. The SS interior exuded both a sense of sportiness with its machined turned dash, full instrumentation and bucket seats, as well as luxury when you examine all of its amenities like Power steering, brakes and windows, padded dashboard, center armrest and snazzy chrome buttoned seats and door panels. Under the hood, this SS features a correctly detailed engine compartment surrounding an original two-barrel, 283 ci power plant with 2-Spd Powerglide transmission. The trunk is spacious and immaculate in its presentation and is a testimony to the overall condition of this California sweetheart. A great deal of attention and care was also given to the restoration of its undercarriage with a full compliment of new suspension bits and bushings and correct paint. This car rides and drives smoothly and would make an excellent addition to any Chevrolet aficionados collection.
