DESCRIPTION and EVALUATION: This 1934 Ford street rod coupe is an original steel bodied car with fiberglass reproduction rear fenders. This coupe was purchased in the late 1990s and modified to suite the owners taste. The coupe is being described in its current condition.
BODY: The coupe is a complete steel bodied car with the exception of the two rear fenders which are fiberglass. The fit and finish of the doors, hood, deck lid and fenders are excellent. The coupe is basically a restorod, which appears original to the eye. The coupe appears stock with cowl lights, original styled roof insert , and original headlights with stock headlight bar, taillights, newly covered running boards, stock grill and bumpers. There is a power antenna and power trunk lid mechanism both activated from inside the coupe. The gas tank is a 1934 Ford reproduction tank made of polyethylene. The steel running boards are covered with reproduction rubber covers and are in excellent condition. The engine compartment reveals a steel original firewall, which isnt cut up to fit the small block Chevy engine.
INTERIOR: The interior is finished with a goldish brown vinyl which has a traditional tuck and roll sewn design on the door panels and bucket seats. The buckets seats are similar to those of an early Ford Mustang. A rear facing 3rd brake light is mounted at the bottom of the rear window garnish molding. A stock 34 tube steering column is painted black and has attached a turn signal switch and an 8K tachometer. A wood and aluminum Grant GT steering wheel is mounted to the original tube column. A/C directional vents are installed on either side of the dash and over the center of the Vintage Air control unit. The carpeted trunk houses a covered space saver spare tire and the 12V battery .
Chassis and Suspension: The rear suspension is parallel leaf mounted to a narrowed drum brake 1957 Chevy rear sitting on 2 inch lowered blocks. The rear gears are approximate 3:73 ratio. The tires are Dayton 165 R15 radials on the front and Dayton P235/75R15 radials on the rear.
Engine and Drivetrain: The engine and transmission is a Chevy 350 cubic inch engine and a 350 Chevy turbo-hydromantic 3 speed automatic transmission. The engine is painted black to match the car. Lots of chrome and polished aluminum accessories dress out the engine including: alternator, A/C compressor, finned valve covers, air cleaner and brake master cylinder. A four core Walker radiator cools the 350 engine while the tranny is cooled through the intercooler mounted in front of the radiator and is visible through the front chrome grille. Also dressing the engine is a chromed set of headers which are connected to a recent set of tailpipes and Flow master mufflers. The exhaust system is new from the mufflers back and exit over the rear and dump at the rear of the coupe.
Final Evaluation: The steel body appears to be in excellent condition. Both front and rear suspensions are easily serviceable. The drivetrain, again is a basic reliable choice and performs well and appears very nice. The interior is comfortable and attractive and compliments the entire design of the coupe.
