Description:
1967 Plymouth GTX Hemi Hardtop Mopar fanatics should love this car. It has been restored to as new condition and is a four time Chrylers at Carlile first place winner.
This bad boy has the legendary Hemi with the original dual AFB carburetors married to a four-speed manual transmission - one of only 313 GTXs so equipped. This engine pumps out a ludicrously underrated 425 horsepower and an equally underrated, ground thumping, 490 foot pounds of torque which made the GTX run like a naked ape on steroid injected bananas. With that kind of speed Plymouth beefed-up the front torsion bars, rear leaf springs and front anti-roll bars. Heavy duty dual-circuit brakes were also installed along an energy absorbing steering column in case anything went awry. In the sixties cars were all about cubic inches, horsepower and torque.
The GTX Hemi had all of those qualities in spades. However, without the special tagging, the car was kind of like Clark Kent, a nicely muscular but remarkably humble guy. But if you inserted key and turned on the ignition you had better bring out the cape, because the rumble of the GTX Hemi could literally be heard before you could ever see it, unless of course you had X-ray vision. Once seen it was finished in the very popular light blue metallic paint.
The options on this car, beyond the Hemi with chrome tipped dual exhaust, included the following features:
Power disc brakes Console
Left and right head restraints
Tachometer Chrome plated road wheels 7.75 X 14 tires Fortunately, for you this car has Dana 60 Positraction rear end with a 3.55 rear axle. This combination can easily outrun the stock GTX Hemi. The power ratings were deliberately conservative to keep from arousing the ire of insurance companies. But even the street versions were exempted out of Chryslers 5 year/50,000 mile warranty and brochures almost tried to discourage sales with phrases like "not recommended for general highway driving"-which was fair enough. The Hemi belonged on racetracks and drag strips.
From an historical perspective we have a copy of the original window sticker, an original brochure, the original build sheet authenticating the validity the cars originality and Plymouths version of a protect-o-plate. We also have a letter from the Chrysler Registry confirming that this car is in the Chrysler Registry and documenting the following facts: The car is 31 out of series of 55 cars built in a sequence of the 426 Hemi Plymouth GTX 2 Door Hardtops.
It was built at the Los Angeles, California Plant. Sold new in the US It is 1 of 313 GTX four speeds built Confirmed the originality of the VIN. If you want a great car at a great price this is the car for you. Most of these cars are selling in the mid $160s many of which have the less desirable automatic transmission.
