The 1965 Chevy Impala was longer, wider, and lower, and it paid off with bigger sales and one of the most handsome full-sized performance cars of the era. In 1965, the 409 was phased out and the all-new 396 was ushered in, bringing new levels of power and refinement to the Impalas already impressive resume. But this is no stock 396, as you can tell at first glance. Under the billet air cleaner there are a pair of four-barrel Edelbrocks atop a matching intake, all fed by a custom fuel system with AN fittings and hoses. Chevy Orange paint looks vibrant in the satin black engine bay, and liberal use of polished aluminum and stainless gives it a show car look. Ignition is by MSD, and the A/C system uses R134a refrigerant for easy maintenance. The chassis is exceptionally clean, and features tricks like chrome-plated brake drums, which is a good thing, since theyre highly visible behind those huge 18-inch front and 20-inch rear Cragar wheels.
