| Vehicle Description |
A true luxury muscle car... I bought this car in 1993 and drove it as it was for awhile. I started fixing it up in about 2000 with a focus on performance. The 430 CID engine is bored +.030", balanced, and had the oil clearances blueprinted. Has custom forged pistons, TA212 performance cam, and shorty headers that feed dual 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with Walker mufflers in the stock location. The engine is quite powerful and responsive, and simply sounds "bad" at an idle. The transmission was completely rebuilt with all clutches, thrust washers and all clearances set. It shifts slightly firm around town and very firm at full throttle. It was fitted with a Kenne-Bell switch pitch converter that provides two stall speeds, one is stock for driving around, and the other is higher for off the line performance. There is a switch to control this under the front seat. The car is fitted with a 3.42 posi rearend, also rebuilt with new seals and bearings. The brakes were completely overhauled, with new cylinders, linings and hoses(has aluminum front drums). The gas tank was updated with a custom stainless steel pickup and sending unit. This car drives around like a stocker, but runs a 13.90 1/4mile at the track.
I finally got around to the body after the car ran like I wanted it to. It was completely stripped, inside and out. Trunk floor and passenger compartment floors were painted, seam sealed, and are in perfect condition. Body mounts were replaced and the exterior was coated with Bordeau Red urethane base/clear as a tribute to an original lacquer color offered back then called Riviera Red. Front and rear windows were resealed. New carpet, custom reproduced door panels, and later model Riviera velour seats complete the interior. The dash pad is in good condition and there are no speaker holes in any of the interior panels. Has power windows that work and tilt steering. The trunk was lined with the original style liner, and the hood was fitted with the proper insulation after being painted underneath. Finally, the bumpers and almost every piece of chrome trim were replated.
Lastly, the A/C system was completely rebuilt(new condenser, drier, compressor, etc) and converted to R134a. It cools nicely. A new power antenna was finally located, and the original radio works great.
The only exterior mods are the sport mirrors, and the 1966 grille. The 1967 grille goes with the car if desired, I just like the 66 grille much more.
The car was finished in 2006 and has been driven to shows and the drag strip ever since. The paint is holding up well with not a single blister. Somewhere along the line, a 1" tear has occurred in the headliner. The steering wheel has the usual crack. The entire restoration is documented with 100s of pictures so feel free to ask questions about that or anything else. There are always more details that could be refined, but I had to call it done at some point.
A new project has caught my eye. If I had the storage this Riviera would be a keeper because this car is a blast for being as fast as it is while being so big, and pleasing to look at. But I'm quickly running out of indoor car space so it has to go. Thanks for taking the time to read my ad. |
