 Vehicle Description
*** THIS CAR IS PHYSICALLY LOCATED IN NW WASHINGTON STATE *** With the obvious exception of the exclusive COPO editions, until 1970 the largest-displacement Chevelle was the SS396. That changed abruptly when GM officially lifted its ban on over-400-cubic-inch engines in its midsize range. The newest Chevelle SS option, the LS6, was the most powerful in that models very successful history, and in fact the most powerful ever offered in a production car. Today, it is on the A-list of the most sought-after collector cars in the world. The LS6 Chevelles powerplant was every drag racers dream, with an 800-cfm Holley four barrel on a dual-plane aluminum manifold, 11.25:1 compression, a high-lift, high-duration solid-lifter camshaft, beefy four-bolt mains, forged steel crank and connecting rods, forged aluminum pistons, deep-groove accessory pulleys and massive intake and exhaust valves. Its factory rating of 450 horsepower was the highest ever conferred on a production car and, of course, considerably less than the actual figure of approximately 500. Not only did the LS6 make prodigious power; it also remains one of the most handsomely-styled and trimmed of any American musclecar. Its lines and proportions represent one of the high points of Chevrolets restrained styling philosophy of the time, while the SS stripes and badging inform one and all of its pavement-shredding performance. What we have here is a stunning, two owner and completely original, born with, numbers matching Chevrolet LS6 Chevelle. This beautiful and authentic car has 21,393 actual miles on the odometer. The car has never seen body work nor has it ever been painted and is finished in its superb Forest Green (GM paint code 48) exterior with white stripe. Forest Green was arguably the most beautiful color available from GM in 1970 and in the case of this car, the paint is rich and deep and has a couple of minor imperfections which retain its originality. The interior features new seat covers front and back finished in their original Dark Green and they complement the paint perfectly. This car is unique; it was purchased in Fairbanks Alaska when new by a pilot in the Air Force who was stationed in Fairbanks at Elmendorf Air Force Base. It was sold to the family who now owns the car in April of 1972; in total, the car was only used for four years. Around about 1974, the owner of the car and his 20 year old son had a major disagreement which resulted in the car being partially dismantled (the interior) and put up on blocks in a garage where it sat in the 0% humidity of Fairbanks for the next 36 years. Over these years, the son had become ill and was not able to put the car back together. In 2010, the car was shipped to the owners nephew in Washington State who had her delivered to an expert restoration shop where the interior was put back together. At the same time, the engine was dismantled to make sure that everything was as it should be before bringing her back to life. The rings were replaced as were the valves afterwhich the engine was repainted, reinstalled and fired up!. This car needs to be seen to be properly appreciated. She has the born with, matching numbers CRR (LS6 TH400 automatic) 454cid/450hp 4bbl LS6 motor coupled to the born with, matching numbers TH400 three-speed transmission and 12-bolt rear end. This 1970 LS6 has Cowl Induction and a Highly Detailed Interior, Engine Compartment and Trunk and comes with all the early registration documents and an original loan document, owners manual and the Protecto Plate. We have not found the Build Sheet as yet. It would be almost impossible to find a better example of an unrestored original LS6 than the one presented here. Original equipment includes the Z15 454SS package, LS6 454 V8, M40 3-speed automatic, hood and deck stripes, JL50 power brakes and JL2 front discs, heavy-duty battery, F70-14 lettered tires, U14 gauges, pushbutton radio and all-tinted glass. It is very rare that a car like this becomes available for sale so do not let the opportunity to own this one pass you by. If you need any assistance with financing please let me know.
