 Vehicle Description
With all the custom & fabrication shops out there, its tough to find an unmodified 1940 Ford coupe. Its even harder to find one like this beautifully restored 1940 Ford Standard coupe, which still packs its original flathead, all the correct trim, and is still an absolute delight to drive. We all know the 1940 Ford is an icon, and for good reason-its a great-looking car. Finished in basic black, Fords favorite color, it looks brilliant and far more upscale than its humble origins would suggest. And to have survived the hot-rodders wrench, well, its flat-out amazing. The differences between the Standard and Deluxe amounted to trim and a few painted items, and it continued Fords tradition of making the previous years Deluxe model the following years Standard, so that means this car has a peaked grille with a notable dip in its center where the hood fits rather than the straight-across Deluxe grille, and many prefer the look. Also note painted headlight rings and a single strip of polished stainless running the length of the body. This car also carries notable accessories such as a grille guard, fog lights, and bumper ends. And as shocking as it may seem today, only a single taillight was included. Although it was called the Standard, the lovely cloth interior is anything but. Neatly restored in period-correct fashion, it offers beautiful striped broadcloth upholstery over the original bench seat, along with a pair of occasional seats in back for extra passengers. Tan door panels are elegant and simple, with a very slick art-deco look that gives the Ford a great deal of style, and all the workmanship is outstanding. Correct handles and knobs have been fitted, and the 2-spoke steering wheel neatly frames an array of fully functional instruments. Ford moved the shifter to the steering column in 1939, along with the rest of the industry, and it moves through the gates with just your fingertips. The trunk is massive, with a fresh mat and full-sized spare. The 24-stud flathead V8 made 85 horsepower in 1940, and with a bubbly exhaust note and plenty of torque, performance is lively. Flathead Fords are some of the most delightful cars to drive, and their rugged feel from behind the wheel makes them a real treat to drive anywhere. The engine bay is neatly detailed and highly correct, ranging from the oil bath air cleaner to the generator, and an auxiliary fan was added to help keep things cool at low speeds. Ford finally switched to hydraulic brakes in 1939, with a big improvement in performance, but stuck to the rigid axles front and rear, which give the Ford its indestructible feel. A dual exhaust system with glasspack-style mufflers is the only deviation from stock and sounds fantastic. Matching black steel wheels with deluxe trim rings and hubcaps are fitted, and it rides on fresh Firestone wide whites. This 1940 Ford is a very rare find considering the quality of its restoration. Find out why flathead Fords are so beloved and call today! This vehicle is located in our Atlanta showroom. For more information, please call (678) 279-1609 or toll free (877) 367-1835.
