 Vehicle Description
Yes, this is an "X" code Mustang ... and theres almost an unwritten rule that if youve got a standard 68 Mustang fastback, you paint it Highland Green and add some GT equipment. Any car guy (or gal) worth their salt recognizes that combo-it was Steve McQueens ride in Bullitt. Since this one started out with a 390 under the hood, it made it all the more natural. Yes, you need this car, even if you arent a detective from San Francisco! Only about 5000 68 Mustangs were painted this dark green, and you wonder why after looking this one over-the dark paint highlights all of the right curves. The original Presidential Blue was a fine color, but it simply didnt pop like it does now. The paint and body are in great shape, but theyre not so perfect that youre afraid to take it out: this car was put together to drive. The new front grille sports GT driving lights and a new chrome horse in its "corral." Shelby-style hood locks augment the original steel hood. The rest of the subtle trim is likewise clean, and the blacked-out taillight panel looks great. A GT rear lower valance allows for factory-style exhaust tips. A new windshield joins the original tinted side and rear windows. Classic and clean, this Mustangs muted presence gets appreciative nods everywhere it goes. Inside, the original two-tone blue setup is gone in favor of all black. Those are new seat covers, new door panels, a new carpet, a new headliner and more. The console is factory, as is the fold-down rear seat. Youre holding on to the original steering wheel and staring at the original gauges, which still look fantastic. Theres a Kenwood CD player where the factory AM radio once resided, but again, this is a driver first. New speakers are in the rear side panels, powered by an amp in the trunk. This was an original A/C car, and everything from the firewall back is intact. In the trunk youll find the amplifier and a new trunk mat. Pop the hood and youll find a 390 cubic inch V8 engine-the original one. It was born with a two-barrel carb, but a swap to a hotter manifold and a Holley four-barrel add the power Ford forgot to add. A Mallory distributor and Pro Sidewinder spark plug wires light the mixture. Chrome "Power By Ford" valve covers and a clean black engine compartment make quite the impression. Underneath, youll see that this certainly was a car born in San Jose and shipped to sunny San Diego-rust issues simply dont exist here. A newer exhaust includes a set of Flowmaster mufflers for a great rumble, and Lakewood traction bars keep you pointed straight when the powers down. Power is delivered via a C6 transmission and on back to a 9-inch rear-you wont break that! BFGoodrich tires, 235/60R15 front and 245/60R15 rear, surround a set of clean factory rally wheels. Theres a deluxe Marti Report that comes with the car, as well. According to them, this is one of only 189 390 2-barrel/auto cars built in 68, which is a neat bonus. If youre looking for a special cruiser with Hollywood appeal, call today! This vehicle is located in our Charlotte showroom.
