Founded in 1926 in Milwaukee Wisconsin, the Century boat company was a leading boat manufacturer throughout the twentieth century. Two years after its creation the companys manufacturing operation was moved to Michigan where it produced thousands of vessels over the next sixty years. After surviving the great depression Century boats quickly became a top player in boat manufacturing and earned a reputation for quality, style and speed. It was with this reputation in mind that the US government granted Century a contract to build over 3,000 vessels for military use during WWII. The company was awarded the Army-Navy "E Citation" for high achievement in the production of materials. After the war the public was hungry for new boat models much in the same way that they were ready for new automobiles. Century ramped up civilian production with post-war models that were wider and sleeker with lower freeboard and more powerful engines. Competing with the likes of Garwood and Chris-Craft, Century held their own in the market. The dramatic styling cues of the days cars were carried over into the companys new boat designs and Century boats were often seen in Hollywood films. One of Centurys best selling models was the Resorter. The model offered great versatility and with the advent of water skiing it gained even greater recognition. This particular sixteen foot Century Resorter was built in 1965. It features its original, fully rebuilt, Gray Marine V8 engine producing 175hp which moves this boat with authority and emanates a beautiful engine note out of the dual through-hull exhaust. This vessel recently underwent a complete, no expense spared restoration. The hull was re-planked and the topside re-decked in the finest mahogany. The bright work is stunning and the rubber and glass look like new. The interior is finished in spectacular green and ivory with correct gauges and cockpit components - even though the boat was enjoyed a couple times in 2011 the interior shows as-new. The West System bottom offers hassle free ownership and no worry of leaks - the advent of this epoxy technology is something that the original builders could have only dreamed of. Included in the sale is a galvanized trailer in excellent condition. This beautiful piece of American boating history is available in our Atlanta showroom.
