Looking at a 64 Impala SS. Not represented as numbers matching, but wanted to see what engine WAS in the car.

flat spot on front passenger side of block below right cyl head .last letter on it shows application . C =283 STICK ,D = 283 PG TRANS ,R = 327 3 OR 4 SPEED , RB = THE SAME ,S AND SB = PG TRANS . IF IT IS A Q ? IT IS A VERSION OF A 409 ENGINE . SOURCE HOLLANDER INTERCHANGE MANUAL 36TH EDITION
