V8 swap in a 1966 C20
I have abuddy that has a 1966 Chevy C20 as his everyday driver. It has a 292 I6 and a 4 speed manual. He would like to put in a v8 and an automatic transmission. We were thinking a 327 and a 700r4. I am not very familiar on chevy trucks but I am mechanically inclined and would like to do it in our farm shop. Is it possible to have this type of combanation in a pickup without many modifications? If not we are open on suggestions we would just like to have the motr the same year range as the truck and have an overdrive tranny. Thanks for your time.

will need different radiator, frame motor motunt brackets ,shifter and build driveshaft.fan shroud.did this changeover on a 67 1 ton along time ago with a 250 six cyl to 305 v8 and actually lost performace..believe cam was wrong for gear ratio in rear axle.yours will most likely be a 4.11 to 1 if you check it.

Yes its a 4.11 to 1 and he is not able to run the interstate. Would a 396 be a better choice than a 327?

with 700 trans the 292 would make a nice package and bring rpm down. with right cam and carb setup.there are some quick dragsters out there using them.
