have sparks coming from inside alternator what could it mean ?

typically when a electric motor fails internally it is a open winding... insulation finally burns out and lines cross. I put alternators in that category. Could be a bearing. If a bearing goes out the stator can drop in the windings doing that also. If it were me I'd replace it as it is bad news either way.
