How can I tell if my ranchero has a 302 or 289 engine?
Previous owner says engine is a 302 but my mechanic insists it is a 289, Is there someway I can definitly identify which?

My Ranchero is a 1965 model but the engine is not original, it originally was a 6 cyl. w/ 3 speed and now has a V/8 with a C-4 Auto trans.

If by chance you can find out what year your engine was produced, this would help out a lot because the
289 was made from 1963-1968 and the 302 was only made in 1968.
Can you post the casting number?
