I bought the vented gas cap from Auto Zone. Air pressure builds up & with squirt air out when I open the cap.

Does it squirt out after you installed the vented cap? All tanks are vented. If not they would collapse under vacuum. It is vented to the open air or thru emission system. In 63 I think Gm started with the closed system. That is when PVC positive crankcase ventilation for the engines were used and to this day.
