Chevy Motor - 1962 Original Vehicle?
Chat Conversation Start
10:52pm
I'm looking for information relating to a non- original motor in my '65 corvette. In Decoding the 327 CID Motor it appears to have originally been applied to a 1962 Baltimore built Chevrolet. Block has the following stampings: "B267038" that indicates Baltimore Assy. and the 6 digit VIN. Also: "F0522RB" indicating Flint motor, built May 22, and RB being 327 CID - 300HP - 4BBL- 4spd. If my limited research is correct, the 1st # of the VIN should be "2" for 1962? the 2nd &3rd #s would be series: 12, 14, 16 or 18? And t&4th #s would be Body type? B = Baltimore that built the full size Chevrolet. I would be very interested to determine the actual (original) vehicle information associated and matched to this quick little motor??? Regards, John

looking in my old motor manuals they show engines from 58-64 all having just one suffix letter. R for 327/stick and S for 327/powerglide. From 65-UP the only 327 blocks with a double suffix "R" code were only Corvette motors, but no RB. It shows RC, RD, RE, RF, RP, RQ, RR, RT, RU, RX. What is the casting # on the top of the bellhousing flange below the left head? It should be one of these 3782870, 3789817, 3792563, 3794460, 3830944, 3852174,3858174, 3858180, 3959512, 3970041. Also the F0522RB translates to F= Flint Plant 05=May 22=22nd hope this helps
