What oil do I use for a 1964 Ford f100 3 speed manual transmission?

old school back in the day was 90wt gear oil. now most of the newer trannys i been around call for atf.I don't know if thinner oil lubes bearings better or if it is a friction thing. my 52 f6 ford smelled like 90wt when I drained it out, so I put in the 85/140.
