e, it shuts off.............powerglide trans.......ya really got ta wind 'er up to go to drive and kepp it running.......once I get 'er going, she's running fine. Just don't get in my way......................it'll cut off..I've adjusted the valves,(well, not me), tinker'd with the carb, checked for vacuum leaks..............is it possibly the torque converter?....or what????

Are you sure the timing is correct???Have you checked the vacuum advance to make sure it's working properly.Either of these could cause what you described..

By your description it sounds as if the trans is not starting in 1st gear but in drive gear, ever left a stop sign in 4th gear? Hence the stall. If the engine runs and revs fine all other times, it does not know whether or not it is connected to a transmission, my conclusion is inside the trans you need to go.

Sounds like a trans problem. Slide the trans back startt the engine and see.
