does 64 impala conv roof motor need hydrolic oil
the power roof motor on my 64 Impala convertible has what looks like hydrolic oil lines running to it, the motor whines quite a bit as well, the question is does it need some sort of fluid or oil to operate? and if so where do you add the oil?
thx

You need to first determine if it is brake fluid or hydraulic oil in the system now. Have you been able to sniff test the fluid at all? Brake fluid has a very distinct smell... Brake fluid is also corrosive so if you spill any be sure to wipe it up with a rag AND baking soda, it will eat paint and then start on the metal. This is why you typically see rusty areas in convertibles around the leaking cylinders. Their should be an area on the pump which would allow you too fill the motor. operate the motor and check in the lines and cylinders for leaks. You may even need to bleed the system of any air... Its definitely a job to get operating perfect! Also, get a second person to help so you can have them run the switch while you monitor for issues!
