it is not a 350 and it is not a 6 cylinder, so i am thinking it is either the 307 or the 400

Id. numbers are stamped on a machined flat spot on the block below the front of the passenger side head. Scrape off the grease and they should show up.google chevrolet engine identification and the world is your oyster.
