I would recommend using a GM Delco alternator with a built in regulator. These are easy to find and install. One wire to the coil and one to the battery. You will have to install a one way diode on the coil wire. I put one on my 1962 F600 with a 292.

if engine is a 352 or 390 later model parts should bolt right on .the 260 or 289 you will have to probably modify mounting off a 302 . the big question for both setups is belt alignment, not knowing if pullies are the same .voltage regulator must be for alt and will require new wiring . ford alts are purty much the same into the 80s except for ampage and engine size
