I want to remove the existing peddle starter on a 51 chevy truck and replace it with a starter button, but I need to know exactly how to wire it after I replace the starter with one that has a solenoid

Correct on the wiring but it needs to be 12 gauge wire - that is very important. The Delco-Remy solenoid takes a lot of amps to pull it in and especially if the truck is still 6 volt, the wire needs to be heavy enough to carry the current required. They were all originally wired with 12 gauge wire.
