I bought a 56 about 5 years ago, when I took it for V.I. inspection they suspected the serial # had been chenged. I was directed to a Kdot office where a Kansas Highway patrol man looked for the serial#. I had it on my trailer, he rasied it with a small Jack, slid under ( still on my trailer) and with a scraper, and wire brush and a mirror and flash light, and lots of scraping and brushing he read it. It is on top of the frame rail right side, just about midway betreen front and rear. it would be close to where the door meets the 1/4 panel (2 door). He did find that the # on the levt pillar post was correct and un altered. jackochevy
