Today I took my 74 nova for a compression check, and all 8 cylenders read 180 psi. the service tech ask me that that was very good thing for small chevy block, and ask what i have in the motor.and reply with that it had a racing cam and roller rockers air gap intake and that all i know. i just bought the car about a month ago. I thaught it coud the seals or the rings , but every cylinder checks out good. so i don't know what makes the light blue smoke comes out some times. it runs great and it's a 4 speed on the floor. Could it be the kind of oil i'm using or what. ........ Jerry

Sir, the blue smoke could be due to worn valve seals does the engine have original heads? I've found will the older V8's that synthetic oil will weep past the valve seals and enter the chamber causing the blue smoke or the guides could be worn without looking at it I can only guess. Check the valve seals, valve guides, or if using synthetic oil try a mineral brand at next oil change hope this helps -BKB PS the cam will not cause this
