My friend and I have both purchased 1967 Chevelle SS cars a year apart. They each have VIN plate # 67-13817 with the appropriate star shaped rivets on the vin plate and the trim plate matches everything. However, the upper dash plate is wood grain. We have been told they are not true SS cars because they do not have the crackled black finish. In addition, the black rear truck cove on one car has the center SS emblem, but also a Chevelle emblem in the lower right side of the cove. All other markings on both cars are exactly what you would want an SS to reflect. Do we have reason to be concerned as to the validity of the SS?

If you have 13817 in the cowl tag after the #67 you have a true SS.

Check the VIN number on the firewall. It will tell you if it is an SS. I am sure there are identification web sites.
