How can I find out if I have a matching number car the engine to my car in my 56 Belair
i have a 56 belair 4 dr hardtop, it has a 265 V8 engine in it, wehn i purchased it a few years ago was adived it was mathicng numbers, but went to a show recently and was told it not aorigianl? how do i check?
any assitance is appreacited and i thank you in advance for your time.

scrape the flat spot on the block in front of the right head get the letters and numbers off of it.reply here with them will id the engine for you.

check valve covers the bolt should be staggered not straight across : : also should have 3 casting letters on intake manifold and heads and back of block does it have a oil filter on block or canister in front at water outlet. also your exhaust manifold dump one in front one in rear any photos. your vin should start with VC56
