I have a stock 6 cyl 48 plymouth and am tryng to get a water pump for it.
Looking to replace the water pump in my 48 Plymouth. Engine is stock 6 cyl. Every site I go to lists replacement as a gates # 42554, but when I order one I get a pump that is exactly right to bolt to the engine BUT is longer than the original. By longer I mean from where it bolts on the engine to where you attach the fan. It is about
1 1/2 to 2 inches longer which puts the fan into my radiator. Can anyone tell me where I can get the correct one ? THANX IN ADVANCE ..........JON

I am not sure about the '47 Plymouth, (Mine has a 318 in it), but I found I could get a water pump for my 1957 Chrysler and also my 1930 Plymouth from NAPA. Give them a call, can't hurt.

There's a guy in Waltham, MA that deals with everything for old Mopars. I'm not sure of the name, but I think it's Robert's. He had everything I needed for my 1948 Dodge when I restored it a few years back.

Have you tried repacking the original pump? Many of the older water pumps could be repacked with relative ease.
