Oops, if you're junking and there's fear of oil fire, I usually take along a small bottled fire extinguisher or find something I can use as a barrier...even if it's an old bath towel you take along to wipe your hands off with. Just dunk it in an old fender lying in the yard that has rain water in it and put it between what you're heating and the potential fire hazard. Heck, just find a clean piece of sheet metal laying around and use that as your barrier. WHERE THERE'S SMOKE, THERE'S A BBQ.

Green Bottle Propane? Naah...Yellow Bottle MAP gas is a better heat source for the backyard wrencher.

I can backup the heat option. I have removed more rusty, stuck bolts and nuts with heat than anything else. WD40 or other types of penetrating oil need time to work their magic. If you have a couple of weeks to wait just start soaking them down, make sure they are always wet with oil. But for that quick fix, heat is your friend and it doesn't take much. In the field or out in junkyards I take along one of those small green propane bottles along with my plumbers torch fitting. Typically 5-10 minutes of heat breaks even the most stubborn nuts and the flame is small enough to control so you can steer clear of rubber parts or old oil. Good Luck!!

I forgot to mention, WASH the engine down of all the OIL. Cleanliness is next to Godliness! Otherwise, have one of your buddy's ready with a fire extinguisher and a prayer.

Need more info!! Getting the exhaust pipe off the manifold or the manifold off the head?? Steel or cast Iron? Year, make, engine...etc. Oh yeah...REASON? If you're attempting removing the exhaust pipe from the manifold and have frozen nutz on the studs or bolts that refuse turning, HEAT is USUALLY the only way [and breakage of the stud, studs or bolt(s) usually follows.] At that point, burning the remainder of what's left from the manifold is the only recourse. Not for the faint of heart and inexperienced wrencher. If you're having a time attempting removing the manifold from the head because of....whatever. RUBBER MALLET and a good amount of swinging area is necessary. HEAT sometimes helps but BEWARE OF WARPAGE. IAgain, not for the faint of heart and inexperienced wrencher. At the flange to the pipe or the manifold to the head? Need a better discription along with the reason why you're attempting removal. Rubber mallet and heat if stubborn is usually the only way.
