I have a 1966 chevelle 396 ss. When I got it power steering and disc brakes had been added. This car is unrestored original and immaculately maintained. The only restoration has been cosmetic and particularly a paint job in he original color. It is a triple black convertible and in thinking about adding a period corrects AC. Any ideas about how this will affect the value?

Thank you che57vy. It is a numbers matching car. It is also un-restored excellent condition on all but the paint. It has one repaint. Even the top is original and has not been raised and lowered much due to the owner not wanting it to get creases. It is 396/360 hp, triple black, 4 speed muncie, convertible. It is my first car so I am quite excited. The dealer held the car for about 30 years, sold it and 17 years later that person returned it to the dealer. It has been kept in climate control all of that time and is a true time capsulel. It has a few replacement parts like the hood latch but I want to take this car to its highest level so your suggestion is good. I haven't been able to check for build sheets yet. Since it has a paint job should I restore the rest or keep it original since it is in excellent condition. Thank you so much for your response!

Since it already has P/S and P/B added, I would not worry about a decline in its current value, and I would not expect its value to rise a whole lot adding A/C. Being an 1966 396 SS, IF it is a "matching numbers" car, I would see about the availablilty of going back to the manual brakes and manual steering, taking it back to "accessories as showroom" condition, that is, if it is a "matching numbers" car. It it came that way, it sounds like it was almost a race car order "delete p/s, delete p/b" The A/C would be "added gingerbread" for me if I were a buyer, but if it's a matching numbers car and you took it back to "showroom original", it would be worth the most, because it would be a different type of buyer then (those with the deepest pockets)...my two bits....
