Can I install a 426 wedge in my 361 torque-flite equipped 1961 Dodge Polara?
The transmission has been rebuilt, the 361 runs good, but the block is cracked. The 426 wedge has a spun bearing, and don't know the HP rating. (It just has the 4 bbl. carb.) Before I start this project, I need to know three things. 1) Will the 361 tranny bolt up to the 426? 2) Is the 361 tranny strong enough to handle the 426? 3) Can I use the 361 crankshaft and connecting rod for rebuilding the 426 to save me some time and money.

the 361 and 383 took the same crank in 1961.chrysler redesigned the engine in 1962 changing the back of the block and the crank making impossible to mate the 61 parts to a 62 or newer engine. reference HOLLANDER INTERCHANGE MANUAL 36TH EDITION.
