Definate vinyl..after a full paint. Just personal opinion.

Sounds like your own preference.From experience if you do replace the rag top make sure you not only prime it but paint it also.Had a 73 Firebird and made the mistake of just priming and down the road it started to rust badly.

if vinyl is good would use dressing to keep it in good condition.if bad it is a matter of pulling mouldings and then removing the vinyl .on ones i have done the glue will let go.use Goog Be Gone to remove glue.a lot of times GM did not do final work to smooth the body so some body work can be expected to have smooth panels. any blisters in vinyl could have rust forming under them . it could decrease the value of your car by removing the vinyl/
