I was told you turned the key on a put a pin in the hole and I came out but it dont ,my husband is a truck driver and gone a lot so I'm trying to do a lot of this restore myself what i can I finally got the knobs off and now I can't get the switch off so I can take out the dash to repaint it

There is also a bezel tool available on ebay that fits those slots so you won't scar anything,they run around $10.

On these old cars, the ignition switch is held in by the chrome on the outside of the switch itself. If you look at the chrome ring, you may notice tiny indents in the ring. Typically, 4 slots, opposite each other. This ring unscrews to the left. Once you get the ring to turn counterclockwise, you will have to hold the switch from turning with the other hand. Make sure that you are not winding the wires in the back! Good luck! Mark
