We have a 50 Chev 3100. Vin on title is 0834284F255X, plate pn door frrame is 5HP-F20692. Why?

I am no expert on pick up trucks,but I do know that in the earlier years of cars,many times the V.I.N. on the title matched the engine # and not the I.D.tag on the vehicle,maybe that is what you have there.

I forgot to mention.................providing that the I.D. tag is not a D.O.R. assigned tag ! (Department of Revenue)
This is a replacement tag that is issued by the state in cases where the original was lost, stolen, or tampered with.
The numbers they use would not be the same as the original .
