The car is a 6 cyl, dual carb & exhaust with automatic trans. 65000 miles & just started to act up.

The fluid was low but is full now. It shifts at times but has to be over 40 mph or so. I think i will change the oil & filter & see how it acts then.
Besides a cold engine, have you checked the transmission fluid lately?
