The Impala was Chevy's top of the line full-sized car model. The body styles offered included a four-door station wagon, two-door convertible, two- or four-door sedan and a two-door sport coupe. Engine The 1963 Impala Series 1800 featured an overhead valve, 283.04 cubic inch V-8 engine. Its bore and stroke were 3 7/8 inches by 3 inches. It produced 195 horsepower at 4,800 rpm with a 9.25:1 compression ratio. Its torque rating was 285 pound-feet at 2,400 rpm. Series 1700 Impalas had an in-line six-cylinder engine. High performance 327 ci or 409 ci motors were optional on the SS models. Chassis The Impalas had Fisher bodies with independent ball joint and coil-spring front suspension, and rear coil springs. They featured four-wheel hydraulic drum brakes. Available transmissions included three- or four-speed manuals with single-plate, dry-disc clutches. The Powerglide automatic was optional. The '63 models had recirculating ball-type steering gears. Dimensions All the '63 Impala models had similar dimensions and weighed around 3,500 to 3,800 lbs. They were 210.4 inches long, 79 inches wide and 55.5 inches tall. Each had a 119-inch wheelbase.
