L is the manufacturing plant which is OK. What's the 86? Thanks posted: November 10, 2009       Answers (2)   spudder      Are you absolutely 100% certain that the "8" is not a "3"? I have seen hundreds of cars and trucks in my lifetime and in some cases the vin numbers, engine numbers, data plates, etc. can be tough to read. Really get down and scrub the heck out of the vin plate..... posted:  November 10, 2009   grumpyoldman      From what I've been able to find out, that 86 is probably a 36, and a 36 denotes Malibu eight cylinder. 1970 was the first year that the Super Sport became an option within the Malibu line, it is difficult to validate a true '70 Chevelle Super Sport. However, on the flip side, it is just as hard to disprove it. As long as the car has all the SS options, which include the round dash guage's, F41 suspension, front disc brakes, rear bumper pad, buy, enjoy, and drive the car. posted:  November 11, 2009
