On a 63 Impala covertible I am installing the outside windshield trim on a new rubber windshield gasket. My question is whether the front edge of the stainless side and top trim fits into the slot in the rubber gasket so the rubber lip sits on top of the trim OR does the trim sit on top of the rubber gasket as it does on hardtops.

If there are small "boss clips" standing up inside along the entire pinch weld, then you would in stall spring clips onto them and the moulding will snap into the clips covering the rubber gasket... If there are no small "boss clips" standing up in the pinch weld, then look for a slit along the top surface of the rubber gasket. The chrome moulding will fin into that slit.. It must be installed with a special divider tool which opens the slit down to the "T" groove allowing the tab on the moulding to slip down inside the rubber and be locked in...
